What’s the Point of Social Media Ads?

We get asked this a lot.

“Should I be running ads?”“Are they even worth it?”“I boosted a post once, is that the same thing?”

Here’s the short answer: social media ads can work really well, if you know what you want them to do. Otherwise, they’re just noise.

Before you throw money at another campaign, ask yourself a few key things:

What’s the goal here?Is it getting people to your website? Building awareness? Getting bookings? Too often, ads are created without a clear end point. If you don’t know what success looks like, how can you measure it?

Where are you sending them? This one’s overlooked all the time. You’ve got someone interested enough to click, great. But what happens next? If they land on a page that’s messy, unclear, or not relevant, they’ll bounce. Fast.

What’s the conversion? Not every ad is about making a sale. Sometimes it’s about getting people to sign up, send a message, or book a call. But you’ve got to know what you’re counting as a “win,” otherwise you’re just guessing.

What happens after? Let’s say the ad does its job. What’s the next step? Does your team follow up? Do they get a reply, a welcome email, a reason to stick around?

The ad might get their attention, but it’s what happens after that turns interest into action.

At the end of the day, ads are just one piece of the puzzle. When they’re done right, they support your bigger picture, whatever that looks like for your business.

If you’re not sure what that next step is, or if your ads feel a bit aimless, we can help you tidy that up.
